 How to report errors and bugs with the ec fonts

To improve the quality of the ec fonts and to make them free of any errors
and bugs, your feedback is appreciated.

Please make sure, that your report is concise, clear and reproduceable, also
make sure, that you are using the newest version of the ec fonts and that
your bug isn't fixed yet.

The following information is needed:

Which font produced the bug?

Which mode do you use?

What is the error message issued by METAFONT?

Which character carries the error? Is the error visible in the output and
how can it be described? Always try to generate output and look at it
first, some errors may be invisible at all.

Please include the .log file in your report.

The fonts should work at resolutions from 200dpi upwards, and in a size
range from 5pt to 100pt. If your effective resolution lies below 200dpi
-- for non square pixels the lower resolution counts -- (screen modes
or fonts at reduced sizes), if the parameter blacker of your mode is
negative, or if you generate a font outside the given size range, problems
are to be expected and do not qualify as bugs.

The funny fonts needn't work at all, they surely don't work at low sizes.
The typewriter fonts don't work below 8pt.

The fractions and the superscript digits from the tc fonts don't work at
small sizes (below 10 pt) even for fair resolutions (about 300dpi).

If you have a fix for your your problem, it is very appreaciated.

Please report errors to
J"org Knappen AAA

 VVV

In case, that you are not sure, whether a strange feature or error message
qualifies as a bug, you may want to ask a question on the metafont
mailing list. To subscribe send a mail to

 How to install the ec and tc fonts

To install the ec and tc fonts from the sources, take the following steps:

1) Generate the driver files

$ tex ecstdedt
$ tex tcstdedt

There are no driver files distributed, instead they are generated by
running plain TeX on ecstdedt.tex and tcstdedt.tex. The unchanged version
of these files gives you a standard set of Fonts, if you want other sizes
you can add them by editing ecstdedt.tex and tcstdedt.tex.

The driver files are very simple and look like:

 % This is ecrm1000.mf in text format as of January, 19, 1997
 if unknown exbase: input exbase fi;
 gensize:=10;
 generate ecrm

Running TeX on ecstdedt and tcstdedt also generates a batch file in the
style of missfont.log. You may edit the line starting with \BatchFile
to get the appropriate result for your operating system.

2) Run plain METAFONT on the driver files to generate the metric (tfm) files
and the generic font files (gf files).

$ mf "\mode=localfont; input ecrm1000"

Running METAFONT on the driver files produces you the metric file
(suffix .tfm) and the generic font file (suffix .%%%gf, where %%% is the
resolution of your device). Only the plain base is needed, the file exbase
will be loaded on demand.

You should NOT use a METAFONT with cmbase preloaded, because of
incompatibility. In fact, using cmmf on the ec fonts will stop
with an error message generated.

3) Pack the generic font files

$ gftopk ecrm1000.%%%gf

gftopk packs the generic font file to a packed font file, which is the
standard form accepted by all dvi drivers. Note, that you can't create
a .pxl file (obsolete as they are) from the ec fonts, since the pxl file
format is limited to 128 characters.

4) Copy the tfm files to a place, where TeX and the dvi-drivers find them

This place is traditionally given by the environment variable TEXFONTS
(or something similar, like TEX_FONTS). Within the proposed TeX Directory
Structure (TDS), the proper place is

TEXMF/fonts/tfm/jknappen/ec/

5) Copy the pk files to a place where the dvi drivers find them

This place is traditionally given by the environment variable TEXPK
(or something similar, like TEX_PKDIR). Within the proposed TeX Directory
Structure (TDS), the proper place is

TEXMF/fonts/pk/<device>/jknappen/ec/<resolution>/

(Note: There was a long and engaged dispute over the latter place. It may
change, or local needs may enforce a different structure. Regard it as a
suggestion, not as a prescription)

6) Put the .mf files (including the generated driver files) at a place,
where METAFONT finds them.

The rationale of this step is to allow automatic font generation on demand,
e.g. by maketexpk or similar tools.

This place is traditionally given by the environment variable MFINPUTS
(or something similar, like MF_INPUTS). Within the proposed TeX Directory
Structure (TDS), the proper place is

TEXMF/fonts/source/jknappen/ec

(I have to get used to such a path. Under my VMS installation, it is simply
TEX_ROOT:[MF.EC])

7) Delete unneeded files

The following files are no longer needed and can be deleted:

*.log (on VMS: *.lis) log files
*.*gf generic font files
ecstdedt.dvi
tcstdedt.dvi

8) Hints and possible problems

a) Problems with font generation

You need an up-to-date installation of METAFONT (at least version 2.0,
current is 2.718), plain.mf (version 2.71 is required, 2.0 does not work)
modes.mf (3.0 is required, if you want to generate the ec fonts for a
write-white device) to generate the ec and tc fonts successfully.

exbase checks for the most common errors and gives an error message.

b) Installation under LaTeX

Note that the LaTeX format preloads some fonts. In order to use the
new fonts under LaTeX2e, you'll need to regenerate the LaTeX format after
installing the fonts. The ec fonts are supported beginning with
LaTeX2e from 1996/12/01.

c) Write-white devices

The handling of write-white devices with older modes (distributed in
modes.mf 2.*) was incompatible with exbase. Get modes.mf 3.0 if you
have a write-white device for which you want to generate the ec fonts.

d) dc fonts

It is strongly recommended that you delete all older versions of the dc
fonts after backing them up.

The dc fonts have had several incompatible versions, which are now finally
replaced by the ec fonts. It is suggested that you regenerate your dvi
files from the LaTeX source files.

There are now virtual dc fonts available, reconstructing the dc fonts as
virtual fonts from the ec fonts. They can be used in two ways:

* To display and print dvi files containing the older dc fonts

* To migrate older dvi files directly to the ec fonts, using the program
dvicopy on them.

 European Computer Modern Fonts and Text Companion Fonts

This is the first stable release of the European Computer Modern fonts.
They are intended to be as stable as the Computer Modern fonts from D.
Knuth are. This means, that there will be no changes to the following
features of the ec fonts:

* There will be no changes to the font encoding

* There will be no changes to the font metrics

* The macros from exbase will not be removed, nor will their
 arguments change meaning, even if they are by chance unused in the ec
 fonts.

For the tc fonts, the following features remain stable:

* No characters will be removed from the tc fonts, nor will their
 codepoints change

* The metrics of the established symbols will not be changed.

Note, that future releases of the tc fonts may contain more characters,
which will lead to different tfm files and checksum errors. However, those
errors can safely be ignored because the extensions will not spoil
backwards compatibility.

The documentation is currently provisorial and I want to replace it
when I find the time to complete the real documentation of the ec fonts.

Please read the copying conditions as given in the file copyrite.txt.

dc-chg.txt

This file documents the changes on the dc-fonts since version 1.1. Most
recent changes are on top of this file.

 1-FEB-1997 After the release of the ec fonts, this file is closed.
 Further changes will be documented in ec-chg.txt.

19-JAN-1997 Fought again with the |uc_hachek_accent| since it came out too
 high (with white space above) in the metrics. Eliminated
 |uc_acc_height#| from exrueast.mf and the driver files.
 Fixed a bug in the single base quote (reported by Bernd Raichle)
 Added anti-kernings to separate ```triple''' and
 ````quadruple'''' quotes nicely
 ectc: Call exmligtb for monospace ligatures
 Did some finish to the ligtables (this is the last chance, in
 fact, since changing the ligtables changes the metrics).
 7-JAN-1997 Added ecfs (Fibonacci Slanted) as suggested by Ulrik Vieth
 Changed |vair| for ecso from 13 to 15 (found by Ulrik Vieth)
 Corrected Batch file generation in ecstdedt.tex
 Deleted dxbase.ini_mf (suggested by Ulrik Vieth)
23-DEC-1996 Made all fontnames 4 letters + 4 digits for the interpolating
 fonts. Renamed ecr -> ecrm, ecb -> ecrb, ecu -> ecui.
22-DEC-1996 Accents for small capital letters are now ``small capital
 accents''. Moved information from exaccess to exbase.
 Made capital tilde accent 9u# wide. Reincluded
 |center_on| in exbase. Deleted all references to dcbase.
 Consequently applied |hi.| in expseudo.mf. Improved the
 |uc_hachek_accent| on small caps.
 Added typewriter fonts (both visible and invisible) for
 documentclass slides (former SliTeX), named [i]ecltt8.
 ecltt8 is unfortunately different from ectt0800, because the
 interpolation routines introduce some rounding errors on
 the base points.
21-DEC-1996 Deleted boolean variable |acute_sharp| from exbase, because
 it was never used. Added switch |fancy_thorn| to choose
 different thorn shapes.
20-DEC-1996 Starting transition to ec: Renamed files, replaced
 |dcchar| by |ecchar|, renamed |font_identifier|, changed
 file headers, changed |version_check| to ask for (1,0).
19-NOV-1996 Removed |big_...|-macros from dxbase. Added macro
 |super_crescent| used in the Servicemark sign.
18-NOV-1996 Adjusted parameters in dcbi (there was an awful bug
 in |jut| causing no error messages but damaged
 glyphs with dcbi0500)
18-NOV-1996 Added more ligtable entries: Kv (Kvarner) Kw (Kwik),
 V against consonants (russian transliteration)
 4-NOV-1996 Adjusted the position of the circumflex in \^a. Also made
 all lowercase circumflexes overshoot a little (oo).
*********** Release of dc 1.3 Patchlevel 4 *************************************
25-AUG-1996 Aplied the parameter change also to dcso at 5 pt
*********** Release of dc 1.3 Patchlevel 3 *************************************
23-AUG-1996 Changed Parameters for dcsx at 5 pt, adjusted
 |lc_hachek_accent|
23-AUG-1996 Added |zero_width| to the programme for the compound word
 mark; without this statement the chardx value is wrong.
*********** Release of dc 1.3 Patchlevel 2 *************************************
 3-JUL-1996 Added macro |clear_mode_guards|. This change makes modes like
 |nechi| as defined in modes.mf 3.0 work.
 Added missing |;| in the checking section
 Corrected wording of one error message, hopefully
 never to be seen by an end user.
 All changes suggested by Andreas Schwab
 Added file 00bugs.txt with known bugs.
*********** Release of dc 1.3 Patchlevel 1 *************************************
20-JUN-1996 Added |inner bye;| to dxbase before checking for
\section{Introduction}
\subsection{The \textsf{dc} fonts}
In 1990 at the TUG meeting at Cork, Ireland, the european \TeX\ user groups
agreed on a 256 character incoding supporting many european languages with
latin writing. This encoding is both an \emph{internal encoding} for \TeX\ %
and a \emph{font encoding}. This double nature is a consequence of the fact,
that both kind of encodings cannot be entirely separated within \TeX.
The design goals of the Cork encoding are to allow as many languages as
possible to be hyphenated correctly and to guarantee correct kerning for
those languages. Therefore it includes many ready-made accented letters.
It also includes some innovative features, which have not become very
popular yet, though they deserve to become so. First to mention is a
special, zero width invisible character, the compound word mark (cwm).
Its design purpose is to assist correct hyphenation at morpheme boundaries,
which can occur in minimal pairs (e.\,g. german \emph{Wachs-tube} vs.
\emph{Wach-stube}), if the previous example is typeset in \emph{fraktur}
different styles of the letter `s' are needed.
In the new version dc 1.3 I have given the cwm a height, namely x-height,
in order be function as a carrier of accents which are placed
between letters like in the german abbreviature \emph{-b\u\cwm g.}
(\emph{-burg}).
The second innovative feature is the separation of the two characters
$<$hyphen$>$ and $<$hyphenchar$>$. The hyphenchar is designed as a
hanging hyphen, giving a smother text boundary.
The final version of the Cork encoded fonts will be called \textsf{ec}
(European Computer Modern or Extended Computer Modern) fonts. The current
version, \textsf{dc 1.3}, is the last intermediate step towards the
final version. Note, that in the cause of bug fixes and improvements, the
metrics may change. After the renaming to \textsf{ec} the metrics will
remain stable, as the metrics of the \textsf{cm} fonts do.
\subsection{The \textsf{tc}-fonts}
The need for a text companion font was first articulated in the discussion
of new 256 character mathematical fonts in 1993. In order to achieve a
better orthogonality between text and math, some text
symbols stored in the math fonts should be moved to the text companion
fonts\footnote{The archives of the
math-font-discuss mailing list are available for ftp on
\texttt{ftp.cogs.susx.ac.uk} in directory \texttt{pub/tex/mathfont}.}.
The text companion fonts are also the ideal place to store some new
characters, like currency symbols.
There are now 108 characters in the \textsf{tc} fonts, including
special uppercase versions of the accents, oldstyle digits,
genealogical symbols, footnote symbols, currency symbols and
other custom characters. The selection is unique and superior
to most commercially available expert sets.
\section{Supported languages}
The following languages are supported by the Cork encoding:
Afrikaans, Albanian, Breton, Croat, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian,
Faroese, Fin\-nish, French, Frisian, Gaelic, Galician, German, Greenlandic,
Hungarian, Icelandic, Irish (modern orthography), Italian, Letzeburgish,
Lusatian (Sorbian), Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Rhaetian (Rumantsch),
Rumanian, Slovak, Slo\-ve\-ne, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish. Many non-european
languages using the standard latin alphabet (e.\,g. Bahasa Indonesia,
Suaheli) are also supported.
In europe, the following languages aren't supported: Azeri, Basque,
Catalan, Esperanto, Irish (old orthography), Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese,
Sami, Welsh. Of course, Greek and all languages with cyrillic writing are
outside the scope of the Cork encoding.
\section{Standard Control Sequences}
The following standard control sequences are assigned with \LaTeX's
\texttt{T1} encoding for the \textsf{dc} fonts:\\
\texttt{\string\r} Ring accent (\texttt{\string\r\ u} gives \r{u})\\
\texttt{\string\k} Ogonek (\texttt{\string\k\ e} gives \k{e})\\
\texttt{\string\dh}, \texttt{\string\DH} Icelandic letter edh (\dh, \DH)\\
\texttt{\string\dj}, \texttt{\string\DJ} Letter d with stroke (\dj, \DJ)\\
\texttt{\string\ng}, \texttt{\string\NG} Letter eng (\ng, \NG)\\
\texttt{\string\th}, \texttt{\string\TH} Icelandic letter thorn (\th, \TH).\\
To load the \textsf{tc} fonts, use the \texttt{textcomp}-package, which
provides control sequences for all the included symbols.
\section{Ligatures}
In the proportional fonts, the following ligatures are implemented:\\
\begin{tabbing}
\verb:---: \=--- (em dash) \kill
\verb:--: \>-- (en dash)\\
\verb:---: \>--- (em dash)\\
\verb:``: \>`` (english opening quotes, german closing quotes)\\
\verb:'': \>'' (english and polish closing quotes)\\
\verb:,,: \>,, (german and polish opening quotes)\\
\verb:<<: \><< (french opening quotes)\\
\verb:>>: \>>> (french closing quotes)\\
\verb:!`: \>!` (spanish opening exclamation mark)\\
\verb:?`: \>?` (spanish opening question mark)\\
\verb:fi: \>fi\\
\verb:ff: \>ff\\
\verb:fl: \>fl\\
\verb:ffi: \>ffi\\
\verb:ffl: \>ffl
\end{tabbing}
In the typewriter fonts, the following ligatures are implemented:
\begin{tabbing}
\verb:---: \=--- (em dash) \kill
\verb:--: \>\texttt{--} (en dash or number range dash)\\
\verb:---: \>\texttt{---} (em dash)\\
\verb:``: \>\texttt{``} (english opening quotes, german closing quotes)\\
\verb:'': \>\texttt{''} (english and polish closing quotes)\\
\verb:,,: \>\texttt{,,} (german and polish opening quotes)\\
\verb:<<: \>\texttt{<<} (french opening quotes)\\
\verb:>>: \>\texttt{>>} (french closing quotes)\\
\verb:!`: \>\texttt{!`} (spanish opening exclamation mark)\\
\verb:?`: \>\texttt{?`} (spanish opening question mark)
\end{tabbing}
The convention on the dashes suites british usage for number range dashes
best and does not interfer with any other known usage. In verbatim mode,
all ligatures are switched off.
\section{Hints on usage}
The \textsf{dc} fonts are intended for text usage in european languages.
The Cork font encoding is selected with the command
\verb:\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}: in \LaTeXe.
The \textsf{tc} fonts are a multi-purpose font. Suggested usages include
verbatim setting of latin-1 and latin-2 listings, avoiding the so-called
``hidden math'' in text mode (that's the reason, why there are footnote
symbols in), providing building blocks for virtual fonts (oldstyle digits
are included for this reason), or just providing otherwise unavailable
symbols (like the permille sign).
Some characters are primarily intended for verbatim listings, in plain text
they may be replaced with macros. These characters include the raised digits,
the fractions, the trademark sign, and the ordinal indicators.
For text fractions, the following macro is suggested (from the \TeX book,
exercise 11.6):
\begin{verbatim}
\newcommand{\nicefrac}[2]{\leavevmode\kern.1em
\raise.5ex\hbox{\the\scriptfont0 #1}\kern-.1em
/\kern-.15em\lower.25ex\hbox{\the\scriptfont0 #2}}
\end{verbatim}
It can produce arbitrary fractions and is not restricted to some simple
cases, the output looks \nicefrac12, \nicefrac54, \nicefrac{17}{42}.
For the ordinal indicators (\ordmale\ and \ordfemale),
the following macros are suggested (from
spanish.ldf, \textsf{babel} bundle):
\begin{verbatim}
\newcommand{\ordmale}{\raise1ex\hbox{\underbar{\scriptsize o}}}
\newcommand{\ordfemale}{\raise1ex\hbox{\underbar{\scriptsize a}}}
\end{verbatim}
\section{Naming of the font files}
Currently, the extended computer modern font have the prefix \textsf{dc}.
This prefix will changew to \textsf{ec} with the final release after
another round of bug fixing. I hope to make the transition from \textsf{dc}
to \textsf{ec} in about one year. The text companion fonts have the prefix
\textsf{tc}, which is not subject to change. However, later releases may
included more characters and therefore have different checksums. No
characters shall be removed from the \textsf{tc} fonts.
Most of the \textsf{dc} fonts can be generated at any size one want in the
range from 5pt to 100pt. For each size, a unique name is needed.
With the release 1.2 of the \textsf{dc} fonts, a new, more precise naming
scheme is in effect. Since there are widely used operating sytems limiting
the file name to 8 character (plus an extension of 3 characters) the
following scheme is used:
\begin{itemize}
\item The first two letters (either \texttt{dc} or \texttt{tc} denote
 the encoding and the general design of the font.
\item The one or two following letters denotes the family, shape, and
 series attributes of the font. E.\,g. \texttt{r} for roman,
 \texttt{bx} for bold extended, \texttt{ti} for text italic, or
 \texttt{bi} for bold extended italic. A complete overview is given
 at the end of this section.
\item The following four digits give the design size in \TeX's points
 multiplied with 100. E.\,g \texttt{1000} denotes tex point,
 \texttt{1440} denotes magstep 2, i.\,e. 14.4 point, and
 \texttt{0500} denotes five point.
\end{itemize}
Here are the implemented styles:
\textbf{Roman family:} \texttt{r} roman, \texttt{b} bold, \texttt{bx} bold
extended, \texttt{sl} slanted, \texttt{bl} bold extended slanted,
\texttt{cc} caps and small caps, \texttt{xc} bold extended caps and small
caps, \texttt{sc} slanted caps and small caps, \texttt{oc} oblique
(bold extended slanted) caps and small caps,
\texttt{ti} (text) italic, \texttt{bi} bold extended italic,
\texttt{u} unslanted
italic, \texttt{ci} classical serif italic (new design).
\textbf{Sans serif family:} \texttt{ss} sans serif, \texttt{si} sans serif
inclined (slanted), \texttt{sx} sans serif bold extended,
\texttt{so} sans serif bold extended oblique (slanted).
\textbf{Typewriter family:} \texttt{tt} typewriter, \texttt{tc} typewriter
caps and small caps, \texttt{st} slanted typewriter,
\texttt{it} italic typewriter.
\textbf{Variable width typewriter family}
\texttt{vt} variable width typewriter,
\texttt{vi} variable width italic typewriter.
\textbf{Various other fonts:} \texttt{bm} variant bold roman,
\texttt{dh} dunhill, \texttt{fb} Fibonacci parameters, \texttt{ff} funny,
\texttt{fi} funny italic. Expect errors with the funny fonts, they aren't
really worked out.
Here are some examples:\\
\begin{tabular}{ll}
\texttt{dcr1000} & European computer modern roman at 10pt\\
\texttt{tcr1000} & Text companion symbols roman at 10pt\\
\texttt{dcss1728} & European computer modern sans serif at 17.28pt\\
\texttt{dcbx0900} & European computer modern roman bold extended at 9pt
\end{tabular}\\[18pt]
Some remaining fonts come at one size only, those are\\
\begin{tabular}{ll}
\texttt{dcssdc10} & sans serif demi-bold condensed\\
\texttt{dcsq8} & sans serif quotation\\
\texttt{dcqi8} & sans serif quotation inclined\\
\texttt{dclq8} & latex sans serif quotation \\
\texttt{dcli8} & latex sans serif quotation inclined\\
\texttt{dclb8} & latex sans serif quotation bold\\
\texttt{dclo8} & latex sans serif quotation oblique (bold inclined)\\
\texttt{idclq8} & invisible latex sans serif quotation \\
\texttt{idcli8} & invisible latex sans serif quotation inclined\\
\texttt{idclb8} & invisible latex sans serif quotation bold\\
\texttt{idclo8} & invisible latex sans serif quotation oblique.
\end{tabular}\\
The last eight fonts are for the \textsf{slides} document class, which
replaces old \textsc{Sli}\TeX. They contain a special version of the capital
letter `I'.
%
% This file is part of ecfonts version 1.0
%
% Please read the files 00readme.txt, 00inst.txt, 00error.txt, and
% copyrite.txt for further information
%
% You find some documentation in ecdoc.tex (needs LaTeX2e)
This file documents changes to the tc fonts after 17-JUN-1995
 1-FEB-1997 After the release of the ec fonts, this file is closed.
 Further changes will be documented in ec-chg.txt.
19-JAN-1997 Adjusted height of capital hachek accent
 Added <hyphen><hyphenchar> ligature even for tc fonts.
11-JAN-1997 Tuned the center dot to work well with catalan l.l
 7-JAN-1997 Replaced |monospace| by |hefty| in condition for pos3 in
 textsurd.
 Added forgotten |pickup tiny.nib| to italic fractions
 1/2 and 1/4.
 Improved shape of the low lying tilde.
 Corrected |font_identifier| for tcsl (found by Ulrik Vieth)
 Changed |vair| for tcso from 13 to 15 (found by Ulrik Vieth)
 Added tcfs (Fibonacci Slanted) as suggeseted by Ulrik Vieth
 Finally found the bug in upwards and downwards arrows, causing
 strange pathes at high resolution. Some r's and l's were
 switched.
23-DEC-1996 Made all fontnames 4 letters + 4 digits for the interpolating
 fonts. Renamed tcr -> tcrm, tcb -> tcrb, tcu -> tcui.
22-DEC-1996 Got rid of txmacros.mf by moving the few definitions either
 to exbase.mf or txaccent.mf.
 Consequently applied |hi.| in txpseudo.mf.
20-DEC-1996 Starting transition to ec: Renamed files, replaced |dcchar| by
 |ecchar|, changed file headers, changed |version_check| to ask
 for (1,0).
19-NOV-1996 Added more characters: New capital tie, semantic brackets,
 servicemark, abzueglich
18-NOV-1996 Added more characters: textminus, ascender height cwm,
 copyleft, circled P, new tie, capital new tie,
 numero sign, aestimated sign, quill brackets,
 reference mark, textsurd, open bullet
18-NOV-1996 Applied the changes in dcbi parameters also to
 tcbi
*********** Release of dc 1.3 Patchlevel 4 *************************************
25-AUG-1996 Applied the parameter change also to tcso at 5 pt
*********** Release of dc 1.3 Patchlevel 3 *************************************
23-AUG-1996 Changed Parameters for tcsx at 5 pt.
23-AUG-1996 Added |zero_width| to the programme for the capital compound word
 mark; without this statement the chardx value is wrong.
*********** Release of dc 1.3 **************************************************
31-MAY-1996 Corrected |tiny| for dcsx..tcso at 5 pt
 Changed |clear_memory| to |clear_extra_memory|
 Finnish
 Checked parameters for several fonts (suggested
 by Ulrik Vieth)
12-MAY-1996 Added a capital cwm to the tc fonts
 Changed several def's to vardef's in txpseudo.mf
 Brought tcstdedt.tex up-to-date
 Added tcvi (variable width italic typewriter)
 Made tcr and tcsl parameters equal to dcr/dcsl
 Made tcsx0500 more expanded, ditto tcso
 Added the additional font dimensions 23--31
 Removed unneeded |lc_circle_height(#)|
24-APR-1996 Changed the |basedef|-line for tcbi to contain unrounded
 sizes (14.4 instead of 14 etc.)
 Buildt in version consistency control
 Added comma and full stop to the tc character set,
 this facilates macros for oldstyle digits.
15-APR-1996 Remade txpseudo in the style of dxpseudo, with all
 consequences
14-APR-1996 Deleted superfluous |pickup fine.nib| in \textdivide
 were too thin)
31-AUG-1995 Finish: Added file headers, clean up the directory
24-AUG-1995 Made sans serif parameters conformant with the dc sans
 family
 6-AUG-1995 Added |if .5w <> good.x .5w: change_width; fi| to the bullet
%
% Running TeX with this file as an input results in a lot of
% Metafont font driver files (tcrm5.mf, tcrm6.mf, ..). The files
% which should be generated are marked in the following macro
% \FontsToBeGenerated. For each font there has to be an entry
% with the pt sizes the font should be generate with. Additionally
% in the heading \tablevalues all used pt sizes have to be mentioned,
% just to get an fine printout.
%
% Furthermore there is a batch file which can be customized for the
