\centerline{The \TeX tib system for writing Tibetan}
\centerline{S. W. Sirlin}

\bigskip

This is a modification of the latextibetan system, written in
1987 by Jeff Sparkes of Memorial University of Newfoundland,
and operates the same way.

You start with a file, say junk.tib. This has various \TeX\ or \LaTeX\
text and commands, and Tibetan text enclosed by \%\%. The Tibetan
should use the transliteration below. Run the tfilt program on this
file to get junk.tex. On a Unix machine use

tfilt junk.tib $>$ junk.tex

(assuming the binary tfilt is in your path). Now you can run \TeX\ or
\LaTeX\ on the resulting file, generating a .dvi etc. as usual. I
usually use \TeX. I've automated the process with the script file
ttex.

ttex -t -ps junk

produces junk.ps.

Following is a list of the characters and their transliterations.
The numbers given are the order in the font (base 10, starting from
0). First comes the main font.

Note that the tsheg (%%,# %%) is automatically inserted after words
unless a \# is present. You also need a space before the ending \%\%.

Special symbols with braces ($\{ \}$) expect an argument and put stuff
around it - e.g. $\backslash altm\{ rna\}$\ is %%\altm{rna} %%.

Hopefully this will be of use, but of course there are no guarantees.
I am planning to add the little half circle that belongs in the
hung. I'm also planning to make a nicer font.
