This is a demo version of CTeX under DOS.
All files contained in the demonstration package are property of the
Prosoft International.
Prohibited for distribution for commercial purposes.
Prosoft International reserves all rights for this software package.
1. What is CTeX?
CTeX 2.1 is a pure and portable extension of TeX and its DVI drivers.
It is designed specifically for the professional oriental language
typesetting community. In CTeX, oriental languages are not longer
the ``foreign languages'' in the TeX community. All features of the
existing TeX and its DVI drivers are extended to the oriental languages.
In addition, CTeX provides the following unique features for the
professional document production:
o supporting multiple oriental languages and coding schemes ( up to 128 )
in a single document.
o supporting a large number of oriental fonts up to 128. An oriental
font is a font of thousands characters. For instance, GB Kai Ti is
taken as one font of 6,763 chars.
o supporting both outline and bitmap fonts. The outline font manager
of CTeX is just much faster than any other font managers. For instance,
on a 486/33MHz PC, it generates 17 distinct characters per second.
o supporting user defined bitmap symbols. The Quick Bitmap Interface,
as a standard component of CTeX, lets you generate bitmap symbols in
one step.
o spliting your printer files. You not longer need to worry about the
printer errors due to your extensive use of fonts, and you not longer
need to split your TeX files because of the limited font capacity of
your printer.
2. HOW TO INSTALL CTeX DEMO?
2.1 If you obtained the CTeX demo from network distribution:
Copy the file demo.exe to directory on hard disk, say, c:\ctexdemo.
Demo.exe is a self-extracting file.
Type
demo
to extract the installation files, and type
install
2.2 If you obtained the CTeX demo from a normal distribution:
Insert demo disk into drive b: or a:
type
b: or a:
then type
install
Please follow the interactive instructions to complete the installation.
3. RUN A DEMO
After installation, you have several printer files on the directory:
corder.hp, cccdemo.hp, c1ccdemo.hp (for HP printers) and
corder.ps (for PostScript printers).
All of these files are produced by CTeX system.
Now you are able to run dvic, the CTeX dvi-driver.
type:
dvic order.dvi
You will get a printer file order.xx. The order.dvi was produced using
TeX 3.14 and it contains 50 Kai Ti Chinese outline characters. The demo
version of dvic supports up to only 60 oriental language characters in one
single document.
Print out the file corder.ps or corder.hp and the cccdemo.hp and c1ccdemo.hp.
4. ORDER
Print out the file:
order.hp ( on HP printer )
or
order.ps ( on Postscript printer )
You will find out more information regarding the software. Fill out the
order form and send out today.
5. OTHERS
Prosoft International has other products/services available:
5.1 Software developers' kit: CTeX outline and bitmap font manager
integration kit. With this kit, software developers not longer need to
develop their own font managers. The CTeX font manager is simply the
fastest font manager. Currently we have 10 Chinese outline fonts and
more fonts will be produced via our outline production line.
5.2 Outline Font Production Service.
We provide service of converting bitmap fonts to outline fonts at price of
$1.00 per character. Contact us for more detail.
