Program: AMSTeX v2.1 and AMSLaTeX v1.1 by the American Mathematical Society
Source(s): ftp'ed from e-math.ams.com
Date(s) obtained: 1 Mar 92 and 9 Apr 92
Notes:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FILES ON THIS FLOPPY
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following files can be found on this floppy:
-READ ME This file.
AMSFONTS ZOO METAFONT source code for all the AMS fonts. (Use TOMS)
AMSLATEX ZOO All code for AMSLaTeX. (Use TOMS)
AMSTEX ZOO All code for AMSTeX. (Use TOMS)
README ZOO A read.me file from e-math.ams com. (Use TOMS)
TFM-FILE ZOO The .TFM font files. (Binary files, do not use TOMS.)
TOMS EXE Convert UNIX text files to MS-DOS text files.
ZOO EXE Unpack archives.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ZOO
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To save disks, these files are archived and compressed using ZOO. Where
there was spare space on the disk, I have included ZOO, which is also the
extraction tool. ZOO was used as it is relatively system independent,
allowing people using many operating systems to manipulate these files.
Only the MS-DOS version of ZOO is supplied on this disk.
To extract the files to a directory, or in the case of files stored with
directory information, to directories relative to it, go to that directory
by logging to the drive and then issuing a CD command. When you are in
the directory, type the following command:
a:zoo x <a:name.zoo>
Naturally, if your floppy is actually in your B: drive, specify that instead
of the A: drive. You can speed matters up by copying the ZOO.EXE file to a
directory on your PATH on your hard drive, in which case you don't have to
specify a drive in front of the command. More sophisticated use of ZOO is,
of course, possible.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LINE END CHARACTERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The text files on this disk are in UNIX form, which means that each line
ends in a line-feed character alone, instead of the MS-DOS standard of
a line-feed, carriage-return pair. They came that way from the archive
from which they were obtained, and they were not converted to allow these
files to be of use to as many people as possible.
If you do wish to use the files under MS-DOS, you can easily convert them
with the supplied program TOMS. TOMS is capable of converting of
converting one or more files at a time. You can specify one or more
files with standard MS-DOS wildcards:
TOMS *.txt
-or-
TOMS directory\*.*
In the latter case, the program will convert all files which are in that
directory.
While the program will not damage text files if it processes them more
than once, *DO*NOT* use it on binary files such as program files (i.e.,
.EXE and .COM) and font files (i.e., .PK, .TFM, and .FLI). To aid you,
the list of files on this disk that is given above should make clear as
to which files should be treated and which should not. (Actually, the
program tries to determine which files are binary files, and then does
not convert them. I wouldn't trust this capability to be failproof.)
TOMS is a renamed copy of FLIP v1.0a by Rahul Dhesi. Under the terms of
the license, you can use it free. Source code to the program and
documentation is available from TUG.
