This file used to record noteworthy changes, but fontname is no longer
released separately, but rather updated continuously.  So, see the
ChangeLog for changes after July 1998.

2.2 (1 July 1998)
* Rearrange distribution so map files can be updated independently.
* New variants inferior, superior, etc.
* New supplier Wolfram (w), new wolfram.map.
* Many new typeface abbreviations.

2.1 (5 July 1996)
* Add oldstyle, shadow, schoolbook, superfont variants.
* Add Cyrillic, Greek, expertised encodings.
* Additions to special.map.
* New urw.map file, additions to monotype.map, Ibycus in typeface.map.
* New softkey*.map files.
* DC and TS files now in supplier jknappen.

2.0 (12 August 1995)
* New encoding variants 7 and 8 to expand the namespace, changing
  existing names for expert, oldstyle figure, alternate fonts.
* Tables split out from fontname.texi to machine-readable *.map files.
* Abbreviations for the 500-font Bitstream CD, the Softkey Keyfonts
  Pro CD, and common Apple fonts included.
* TimesNewRomanPS assigned its own typeface family.
* Some afm2tfm *.enc files included.
* Many miscellanous corrections and additions.

1.6 (30 March 1994)
* New variant `8' meaning next-character-is-also-a-variant, giving us
  another [a-z0-9] to play with. ISO Latin 1, 2, and 5, Windows ANSI,
  and the Mac standard layouts all assigned.
* New typefaces: wi=Wingdings, mg=Marigold, m0=Monospace.
* One new alias (Omega=Optima).
