Anyone know what \unbox is supposed to be? It stops \c from working.
\box perhaps?

Subject: \unbox

The last LaTeX distribution was changed a few days later because the
cedilla command \c was not working properly. Fourteen months later
someone here spotted the problem the first time any of us had tried to
produce a cedilla. The problem was caused by an \unbox command used in
the definition of \c. There is, of course, no \unbox command. However,
the fact that the change was made is not apparent at the top of
lplain.tex, as the date recorded there does not agree with the one at
the foot of the file.

The mistake has not been completely covered up yet, as \unbox is still
indexed at the top of latex.tex.

Subject: \unbox and \c in LaTeX

I fetched the copy of lplain.tex which at the top says that it was last
modified on 17/3/92 but at the bottom said it was dated 25/3/92, and
sure enough the only change was in the definition of \c, where \unbox
was changed to \unhbox.

However, the latest latex.tex still indexes \unbox as one of its
commands. Perhaps that too needs to be changed surreptitiously...

Subject: VMS TeX

This seems like a FAQ, but couldn't find it in the FAQ I have.

I want to install TeX/LaTeX etc on a VAX/VMS machine.
I anon-ftp'd to ftp.tex and found /tex-archive/system/vms - so far so good.
There were a few files here - but only a .web and a .vms-changes: not
a full distribution.

There was a sub-dir called decus/tex containing lots of tex.bck_* files.
Am I correct that this is a backup of a complete TeX/LaTeX distribution?
How should I transfer it? (binary ftp?) How do I get the files out of
all this when I have got it here?

Or should I look at the 'original' tex archive - since that also is
a VMS system?

Apologies if these are 'stupid' questions - I am not very familiar with
VMS - I know where I am with simple .tar.Z files!

Thanks,

I would like to print out latex files on an HP DeskJet 500 printer

Many thanks for any help.

According to your mail server vvcode should be in tex-archive.archive-utils,
but it's not. Where can I find it, please?

I'm assuming you mean the information returned when you send the
    HELP VVCODE
command to List-Server@uk.ac.tex? This reflects (no, make that
reflected:-) the directory heirarchy in force when the help was first
written over two years ago. Since then, things have been reorganized
once or twice :-) and the vv stuff will be found in
[tex-archive.archive-tools.vvcode].

Yes, you want S2LaTeX, which is on ftp.tex.ac.uk in
/pub/archive/support/s2latex and on tex.ac.uk in [tex-archive.support.s2latex]

From the README:
s2latex is a Scribe to LaTeX converter. It is expected to get about 90%
right the first time it is run and then additions of translation rules will
help get much more of the way along. See the Makefile for more details. It
was written by Van Jacobson of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.
