Date: 9 August 91 Message No: 031
To: TeX implementors and distributors
From: Barbara Beeton
Subject: Quick update on e-math.ams.com
Within the past few weeks, the e-math archive at AMS has been completely
refreshed. Highlights of the update include:
- AMS-TeX version 2.1 -- bug fixes and some minor enhancements
The file ams/amstex/amstex.bug gives the detail of changes.
- AMS-LaTeX version 1.1 -- bug fixes
Current versions of the Mittelbach/Schoepf new font selection scheme
files are now posted, as well as the reference versions of latex.tex
and lplain.tex .
The BibTeX style amslpha.bst is now a true "alpha" style, and
produces bibliographic input according to AMS style requirements.
The file ams/amslatex/amslatex.bug gives the detail of changes.
- AMSFonts version 2.1 -- substantial bug fixes, including elimination
of the problems that caused the ms* fonts to get different checksums
and .tfm dimensions at different resolutions.
.mf sources for the AMSfonts are now packaged as a compressed tar
file, in ams/amsfonts-sources.tar.Z , in addition to the ordinary
ascii .mf files.
.pk files are now available in resolutions of 180, 240 and 400dpi
in addition to the 118 and 300dpi available previously.
- Author guidelines for submitting electronic manuscripts to the AMS
using AMS-LaTeX are new.
A consistent change to all macro and text files originating at AMS
is the installation of new identification blocks, based on the BibTeX
format recommended by Nelson Beebe.
I have received a note from Don Knuth concerning a bug (in Plain)
reported in June:
"... the correction will go in
officially in fall when I make the next update."
I will be out of town from August 15-September 3, and from September 20-
October 16. (Among other commitments, I will be attending the TeX91 and
Gutenberg meetings in Paris.) I will not be accessible by e-mail during
that time, so any messages received then will wait until my return.
