Instructions for installing and using vfinst: (August 1998)
===========================================================

Make sure your version of TeX understands virtual fonts. Also, make
sure TeX knows how to read input files from both the current and
parent directories.

In addtion to TeX, you'll also need Perl (widely available) and the
file fontinst.sty (available from CTAN).

1. Make a vfinst directory. Place all the vfinst files into
this directory.

2. CAREFULLY adjust the parameters in the file vfinst.par to apply to
your system.

3. Make a work directory within this directory. DO ALL YOUR WORK
WITHIN THIS WORK DIRECTORY.

4. Place all the afm + pfb files for the fonts you want to install
into the work directory.

5. Execute the command `perl ../1vfinst' from within the work
directory.

6. Execute the command `perl ../2vfinst' from within the work
directory.

7. Follow the directions which appear on your console.

These directions are amplified in the file `vfinst.tex', an ordinary
LaTeX file which is part of vfinst.
