The below installation instructions assume a TDS-compliant
TeX system, such as teTeX, MikTeX or VTeX/Free. Yet they
may not exactly fit your particular TeX system; please,
consult its documentation, too! The directory name "texmf"
refers to the root directory of a TDS directory tree. In
case your TeX systems has more than one directory tree, its
documentation should tell you where to install new files.

Installing the Type1 font files
-------------------------------
|
| You need not repeat this step, when updating from a
| previous release of this collection!
|

The Type1 fonts, as supplied by Adobe, are to be renamed for
use with TeX:

Adobe file name TeX file name PostScript FontName
-------------------------------------------------------
rg______.pfb  ->  pror8a.pfb      RotisSerif
rgb_____.pfb  ->  prob8a.pfb      RotisSerif-Bold
rgi_____.pfb  ->  prori8a.pfb     RotisSerif-Italic

rb______.pfb  ->  pr4r8a.pfb      RotisSansSerif
rbb_____.pfb  ->  pr4b8a.pfb      RotisSansSerif-Bold
rbeb____.pfb  ->  pr4x8a.pfb      RotisSansSerif-ExtraBold
rbi_____.pfb  ->  pr4ri8a.pfb     RotisSansSerif-Italic
rbl_____.pfb  ->  pr4l8a.pfb      RotisSansSerif-Light
rbli____.pfb  ->  pr4li8a.pfb     RotisSansSerif-LightItalic

rf______.pfb  ->  pr1r8a.pfb      RotisSemiSerif
rfb_____.pfb  ->  pr1b8a.pfb      RotisSemiSerif-Bold

rc______.pfb  ->  pr3r8a.pfb      RotisSemiSans
rcb_____.pfb  ->  pr3b8a.pfb      RotisSemiSans-Bold
rceb____.pfb  ->  pr3x8a.pfb      RotisSemiSans-ExtraBold
rci_____.pfb  ->  pr3ri8a.pfb     RotisSemiSans-Italic
rcl_____.pfb  ->  pr3l8a.pfb      RotisSemiSans-Light
rcli____ pfb  ->  pr3li8a.pfb     RotisSemiSans-LightItalic

Copy them to the directory

  texmf/fonts/type1/adobe/rotis

of your TeX system. Rename the .afm files accordingly
and copy them to:

  texmf/fonts/afm/adobe/rotis

Most likely, you will have to create these directories
first.

Removing obsolete files
-----------------------
In case you have installed the 2000-03-17 release of this
collection, please delete the files

  dvips/config/pro.map
  pdftex/config/pro.map
  doc/latex/adobe/rotis.txt

and the following directory, incloding its contents:

  tex/latex/adobe/rotis/

Rationale: With respect to the changed TDS structure, the
location of certain files has changed, and just installing
new dstribution would not overwite or delete the obsolete
files.

Installing the TeX support files from the archive pro.zip
---------------------------------------------------------
Unpack the ZIP archive pro.zip in the directory "texmf"
of your TeX system; thus, all files will be copied to the
appropriate directories.

Updating the filename database
------------------------------
Many TeX systems require manual updating of a "filename
database" after adding of new files. Please, consult the
documentation of your TeX system!

Configuring your TeX system
---------------------------
|
| You need not repeat this step, when updating from a
| previous release of this collection!
|

The present distribution includes several font map files for
the Adobe Rotis fonts. You need to configure your
TeX system so that an appropriate file is actually used.
The required steps depend on the particular TeX system.
Particular sets of instructions are provided below for the
following systems:

  * teTeX v2.0 and later versions
    (or teTeX-beta as of June 2002 and later)
  * VTeX/Free

With other TeX systems such as MikTeX or older versions of
teTeX, consult the related documentation how to install an
additional font map file. The name of the map file to be
used for Rotis is "pro.map". Two identical copies
of this file reside in the directories texmf/dvips/config
and texmf/fonts/map/dvips/pro.

Configuring teTeX
-----------------
Additional font map files (here pro.map) are installed
using the shell script "updmap". Before doing so, delete
the file texmf/dvips/config/pro.map, which is not
needed in a recent teTeX. Then issue the following
commands in a comamnd shell:

  texhash
  updmap --enable Map pro.map

Configuring VTeX/Free
---------------------
Make VTeX read the additional font map ("aliasing") file
pro.ali. This is usually accomplished by putting an
appropriate record into each of the configuration files

  texmf/vtex/config/pdf.fm
and
  texmf/vtex/config/ps.fm

Edit these files; in each file add the name "pro.ali"
to the TYPE1 section:

  TYPE1 {
    ...
    pro.ali
    }

In case you are still using VTeX/Free 7.x (as opposed to
v8.x), copy the .ali file from texmf/fonts/map/vtex to the
directory texmf/vtex/config.

Using the Adobe Rotis fonts with LaTeX
----------------------------------------------
See the file rotis.txt, which resides in the directory
texmf/doc/fonts/adobe.
