============================================================
     Linotype Optima Nova font pack as of 2004-01-06
============================================================
                                              Walter Schmidt
                                      w.a.schmidt(at)gmx.net

This collection includes tfm, vf, fd and map files to use
the Linotype OptimaNovaLT-Regular and OptimaNovaLT-Italic
Type1 fonts with LaTeX on the Un*x or PC platform. These
are the two fonts of the Optima Nova collection, that are
available from Linotype's CD-ROM "Gudrun and Hermann Zapf
Collection".

The below installation instructions assume a TDS-compliant
TeX system, such as teTeX, fpTeX, MikTeX or VTeX/Free. The
directory name "texmf" refers to the root directory of the
TDS directory tree. In case your TeX systems has more than
one such directory tree, the documentation should tell you
where to install new files.

Installing the Optima Nova Type1 fonts
--------------------------------------
The Type1 fonts, as supplied by Linotype, are to be renamed
for use with TeX:

Linotype:         TeX:          FontName:
lt_55483.pfb  ->  ln9r8a.pfb    OptimaNovaLT-Regular
lt_55486.pfb  ->  ln9ri8a,pfb   OptimaNovaLT-Italic

Then copy them to the directory

  texmf/fonts/type1/linotype/optiman/

of your TeX system. rename the .afm files accordingly and
put them into texmf/fonts/afm/linotype/optiman/.

Installing the support files
----------------------------
Unpack the ZIP archive ln9.zip in the directory "texmf"
of your TeX system; thus, all files will be copied to the
appropriate directories.

Updating the filename database
------------------------------
Certain TeX systems require manually updating of a "filename
database" after adding of new files. Please, consult the
documentation of your TeX system!

Configuring your TeX system
---------------------------
The present distribution comprises several font map files
for the <Supplier> <Family> fonts. You need to configure
your TeX system so that these files are actually used.
The required steps depend on the particular TeX system.
Particular sets of instructions are provided below for the
following systems:

With other TeX systems such as MikTeX, consult the related
documentation how to install an additional font map file.
The name of the map file to be used for Optima Nova is
"ln9.map". Two copies of this file reside in the
directories texmf/dvips/config and texmf/fonts/map/dvips.

Configuring teTeX
-----------------
Use the shell script "updmap" to add the font map file named
"ln9.map" to the configuration. See the documentation of
your particular teTeX version how to use the script. With
teTeX 2.0 and above, execute the following commands:

  texhash
  updmap --enable Map ln9.map

Configuring VTeX/Free
---------------------
Make VTeX read the additional font map ("aliasing") file
ln9.ali. This is usually accomplished by putting a record
for this file into each of the configuration files

  texmf/vtex/config/pdf.fm
and
  texmf/vtex/config/ps.fm

"ln9.ali" is to be added to the TYPE1 section of the
above-mentioned files:

  TYPE1 {
    ...
    ln9.ali
    }

Using the Optima Nova fonts with LaTeX
--------------------------------------
See the file optiman.txt, which should now reside in the
directory texmf/doc/fonts/linotype/.

Legal notice
------------
The Optima Nova font pack is made up from the files ln9.txt and
ln9.zip.
