This document grew from my own efforts to become a proficient LaTeX user. It is not a comprehensive guide to using LaTeX. It is aimed at giving an overview of the elements of how to mark up a document and then compile it into either postscript or \textsc{pdf} format in English. The best source of information for additional functionality is the package documentation and there are also a number of very comprehensive published guides.
