I need to get some Excel 4.0 charts into LaTeX.
Is there a best way of doing this?
AT the moment I save them as postscript (either directly or via the
laserwriter filter), or pass them through MacDraw pro.
Anyone got better ways?

Subject: dvican on UNIX

I am trying to get dvican to work on UNIX (Solaris) and have had several
problems:

1. The makefile specifies a file fndfil which is not included in the beebe
package. (I did track it down and try it out, but that's another long
story.) However, it does not seem to be used in dvican. If I remove
it from the makefile, all compiles and links successfully. Why is it
 specified in the makefile?

2. Can dvican cope with TEXFONTS defined as a pathlist rather than just one
 directory specification?

3. Are there any plans to upgrade dvican?

Thanks,

Subject: pfe as shell for latex?

Hello everyone,

Has anyone configure Professional File Editor (a very very good editor
and is free) as a shell for latex?

I have recently just downloaded MicroEmacs for Windows as a shell for
latex. It is a very sophisticated and powerful editor I must admit. However,
from a Windows background, I find the editor very confusing with concepts
like buffer, region, yank, etc.

Anyone who have configured PFE as a shell for latex, please share your
experience with others like me. Thank you very much. Please post or email
hsc@eng.cam.ac.uk

Subject: latex to html

Has anyone developed a latex to html converter that runs as a TeX
file, in the same way as docstrip does? This would be truly
portable, unlike latex2html which is perl.

This is a technical query, and I'm forwarding it to UkTeX@tex.ac.uk,
which may be a better source of assistance (AFAIK none of us who
receive the ctan-uk stuff use Macs).

You should note, however, that OzTeX 1.7 is a shareware version,
whereas I believe 1.42 was not; thus there is more to upgrading than
simply the effort involved. (Though if you were a member of UK TUG --
see uktug-inquiries@tex.ac.uk, the shareware fee would be paid for you.)

Dear CTAN

I have been trying to run OzTeX Version 1.42 on a PowerMac
and Laserwriter Pro 630. Although the version I have runs
on the new PowerMac, we have had some problems printing
to this printer. This has prompted me to look for the
latest version of OzTeX. However, I have two queries:

1) If I make the effort to install the new version of
OzTeX (Version 1.7) is it known that the printer driver
will work for the Laserwriter Pro 630? Some-one must know
 this.

2) The appropriate files (in /ctan/tex-archive/systems/mac/oztex)
have been coded, and have the .hqx extension. Sorry to be
ignorant, but what is this? What are the instructions
for decodeing these files? Are the instructions some-where
in the archive? If so, I couldn't find them after an hour
 of trying this morning.

I hope you won't mind answering my queries.

Best regards

\subsection PC and Mac disks

From January 1994 the UK TeX Users' Group is distributing an
emTeX kit for PCs, and an OzTeX kit for Macintosh. The cost
covers copying and postage costs, and the shareware fee for
OzTeX. Each set costs \pounds30, and is available from
Peter Abbott, 1 Eymore Close, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 4LB.
Cheques must be payable to `UKTUG'. Please note that this
service **is available to UKTUG members only.**

Each set comes with an installation guide, and (at least)
full TeX and Metafont, a previewer, a PostScript driver, and
CM fonts. Two update disks a year will be sent out
automatically, with the current version of LaTeXe, and other
goodies. A subscription service will be available for
subsequent years. In addition, subscribers can request up to
3 disks a year with any material from the CTAN archives, but
this will be supplied `as is', without instructions.

 OzTeX and emTeX are also available on disk from TeX Users Group;
 mail TUG for details.
