This is an announcement of the first patch to "rtf2LaTeX", a RTF to LaTeX converter. The patch corrects several bugs reported to me via mail and on comp.text.tex. Also some functionality was added. * Corrected bug in selection of Standard vs. Normal Style reported by Doug L. Hoffman * Corrected bug of writing into strings in Error Message reported by Richard Kooijman * Corrected problems people had with SEEK_SET undefined * New rtf special characters bullet, emdash, endash, left double quote, right double quote, left quote, right quote are now translated. * New Options to use german versions of quotes with german.sty * New option to replace paired double quotes by appropriate left- and right quotes on output. * In Error messages the name of the program should now be printed. RTF is the "Rich Text Format" a format to exchange documents. The format can be generated by several Text Processors, for example Microsoft Word and some programs on a Next. There already is a program to convert RTF to (plain) TeX written by Robert Lupton called rtf2tex. rtf2LaTeX is based on this program but tries to produce correct LaTeX which is in a form suitable for further editing after conversion. rtf2LaTeX is based on Paul DuBois' rtf reader package. It contains some modifications to the original reader. These changes were sent to Paul DuBois and are incorporated into a new release of his code. rtf2LaTeX was written by Erwin Wechtl as a one-semester practical work at our department. It may still contain bugs. If my time permits I will try to maintain the package, but note that I didn't write the code and so I will also have to dig into the sources if something goes wrong. The sources to the new version 1.3 as well as the diffs from version 1.2 to 1.3 (1.2 was the first public release) can be obtained by anonymous ftp from: ftp.vmars.tuwien.ac.at in the directory /pub/misc in the file rtf2LaTeX.1.3.tar.z and the patch is rtf2LaTeX.patch1.z you need the new gunzip program to uncompress the file. Sources can be obtained from the same ftp server in /pub/gnu/gzip-1.0.6.tar.Z This, however may not be the current version. Alternatively you can specify the file name rtf2LaTeX.tar when downloading via ftp and the program will get decompressed on the fly.
