If so where can I find them? Yes of course: There is a drawing package from Georg Horn called TeXcad 2.8 (or?), which is supplied with the emTeX 3.14 distribution. With this tool you can draw bezier curves and more... You can retrieve it via mail from: archive-server@Germany.EU.net, send single line containing HELP for more instructions or texserver@tex.ac.uk, send the following two lines: FILES DISK$TEX:[TEX-ARCHIVE.TEX.MS-DOS.EMTEX]TEXCAD.BOO Helpful, Manuel Carriba (M.Carriba@dcs.shef.ac.uk) ------------------------------ Date: 18 Jan 93 13:06:06 +0000 From: spqr@uk.ac.york.minster Subject: Re: TEX-BY-EXAMPLE / FWEB > 1. I would be interested in knowing what people feel is the minimum configuration which would allow me to run with reasonable response. The main use would be to work on draft papers which are typically 10-20 pages long containing a couple of tables and some mathematics. Any suggestions as to suitable printers for draft copies would also be appreciated. The main > use what do you consider to be reasonable response? which implementation do you propose to use? what are you used to? i run a macplus with 4Mbytes and textures 1.4 at home, and a iicx with 8Mbyte and textures 1.5 at work. the macplus is rather slow, and i drink lots of coffee. the iicx is faster than a 386 25MHz pc running emTeX, but not as fast as either a vax 6320 or a sparc. i never use oztex, so i have no feeling for speed there. there are at least two or three other pd implementations. possibly the fastest is lothar meyer-krebs (is that right?), but you need the MPW to run (i think). > a couple of tables and some mathematics. Any suggestions as to suitable > printers i've only ever tried postscript printers. but the cheapest ps printers are now under 1000. the image writer is scarcely acceptable, but the inkjet produces nice, if expensive, output. low capital cost, high running cost, versus a laser printers higher capital but lower running cost. > for draft copies would also be appreciated. Finance is of course a proble well, isn't it always. if cost is a problem, look at the IIsi, currently obsolescent and the victim of cheap deals (20MHz 68030 chip, faster than the new IIvi?), or even a IIci. the new classic II has a slower 68030, and is very cheap (to my way of thinking). if you are using textures (which i doubt if you are broke, although it is worth every penny!) you need at least 4Mbyte. malcolm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jan 93 17:34:17 +0700 From: R.A.Reese"R.A.Reese" Subject: psfig 1.9 - behaviour on DOS I downloaded -archive.psfig]psfig.* to run the TUG93 announcement with logo and found a hitch. emTeX reported psfig was searching for t93logo.eps.bb and including t93 logo.eps.Z (which of course failed). The supplied file is a single .eps and Rokicki's epsf file handled it without a hitch. On looking through psfig, there's some complex tests added by TJD 10/19/91 that try various options, one of which then decides to add the .bb and .Z. I found that changing the logo filename to t93logo.ps made psfig work, and all the supplied examples are .ps not .eps. Does the code work with .eps as a filename on Unix (where the .Z might make sense) or does psfig only recognize .ps as the extension? (R.) This is the first source code release and also the first release as GNU software of hp2xx. Hp2xx converts from Hewlett-Packard's plotter format HP-GL into a variety of vector and raster graphics formats with special emphasis on TeX / LaTeX. Currently supported formats are: Vector formats: EPS (Encapulated PostScript) TeX... see below: TeX-oriented vector formats: MF (Metafont) EPIC (use of TeX epic.sty macros for line drawing) EMTEX (use of emTeX \special{em:line ...} for line drawing) TEXCAD (similar to EMTEX, but also compatible to TeXcad) Raster formats: PCX (Paintbrush) IMG (Digital Research's format) PBM (Portable Bitmap) HP-PCL (for HP Laserjet plus some Deskjet features) PREVIEW Screen output. See below: The program is prepared to run on various platforms. It has been tested on UNIX, DOS, OS/2, AMIGA, ATARI, VAX/VMS (no MAC yet) and features the following machine-dependent previewers (screen output of HP-GL graphs): UNIX: window output (X11, SunOS 4.x: + SunView) DOS: full-screen, VGA, via BIOS calls, with some HGC support. DOS/386: full-screen, VGA, using DJ Delorie's go32 extender and gr lib (to be replaced by common DOS/386+OS/2 2.0 emx version) OS/2: window output, PM (not fully supported yet) VAX/VMS: window output, UIS (no colors yet) AMIGA: window output ATARI: window output Please send bug reports for this software directly to me: Heinz W.
