mff fonts based on the CMR programs. I have never been able to decide exactly what to call these fonts. I have always thought of Computer Modern, CM Sans-Serif and CM Typewriter as separate families in one CMR "meta-family", but that may or may not jar with your understanding of Knuth's intent... :-) From a Platonist's point of view, CM is a perfectly-formed concept of a typeface, floating about "out there" and what I have here is merely a new implemntation of it. So calling it (something)CM is reasonable. To fit in with Karl Berry's naming system, they should all bre prefixed with a foundry letter; I shall use "f" ("freeware") for now. Thus we have fcm Computer Modern very similar to cmr or cmti fcm?s CM Sanserif very similar to cmss fcm?t CM Typewriter very similar to cmtt fcm?st CM Sanserif Typewriter e.g., mff -ffcm fcmr12 fcmrs12 fcmrst12 There are two obvious ways to store these files: -- put the mf file in /usr/local/lib/tex/mf/inputs and fcm.mff in a global mff file directory such as /usr/local/lib/tex/mf/mff; or -- put the the fcm.mf files in their own directory and put the fcm.mff file there as mff.rc (then the -f option is not needed so long as you cd there first).
