\centerline{\bf \TeXMaG\ under new management}
\smallskip
\noindent
I used to think that Don Hosek was at least three people
(probably Derek, Oswald and Nigel) masquerading under a
single pseudonym. The three of them seemed possessed of
limitless enthusiasm and industry. But even Don is
limited. He has decided to pass on \TeXMaG\ to another
worthy group: volume 4, number 2 is now produced by a 6
person team at Texas A\&M. In the editorial which
accompanied this latest issue we are told that `Don is
putting \TeXMaG\ aside for greater and grander pursuits'.
The burden is now chiefly on the shoulders of Neil
Burleson, ably assisted by most of the \TeX ies at A\&M
(I exaggerate).

\TeXMaG\ describes itself as `a mostly unofficial
publication for users of the \TeX\ typesetting system'
and is an `independently published electronic magazine
available free of charge to all interested parties
reachable by electronic mail.' It has certainly been a
refreshing and useful organ in the past. Having met some
of the editorial team in Texas, I am confident that it
will continue in strength.

The new plan is to produce \TeXMaG\ more often, with
an aimed frequency of not less than once every two
months. The new editorial board suggest that the scope of
the magazine might be narrowed a little. They include a
reader's survey (which was to be returned two days before
I received it -- shurely shum mishtake, ed.).

This issue has a couple of macros to produce `shadowed
boxes', both in \LaTeX\ and {\tt plain}. The next issue
will contain a tables macro which can handle multi-row,
multi-column, variant-width rules tables, with full
documentation. A bold claim.

If you are on electronic mail, it is straightforward both
to submit material to \TeXMaG, and to receive it. To
submit something, just send to

texmag-l@uicvm.uic.edu |rm or|tt
texmag-l@uicvm
\endtt
If you want to receive the magazine, in the UK (or if you
easily get \Janet\ mail), mail
\begintt
abbottp@uk.ac.aston |sc Janet |tt
